“Well this could be the world’s shortest blog…unknowns to us this was the only record we were going to set at Mallory Park!!”

.
After the highs of the last round at Anglesey, the team felt that it wouldn’t take too much to move our car up the results sheet as there was still lots of untapped potential in the Beyond Racer. Even before the car was off the trailer plans for further modifications were already on the drawing board! So the four weeks between races was a hive of activity mainly concentrating around development of the front suspension. But even more importantly we found time to approach a few potential sponsors and boost our charity fundraising progress to over £800, donated across 7 really worthy causes. And I would just like to thank everyone who has helped out and donated!

So we arrived at Mallory really hungry to perform well to reward everyone’s efforts. The sun was shining, and everything looked on course for some blistering racing……but fate had other plans!!….as soon as I accelerated out of the assembly area onto my green flag lap for qualifying the car just didn’t feel right. There was a distinct drive train vibration….maybe a misfire from a fouled plug I was thinking….then down changing into the famous banked Mallory hairpin the car went limp…coasting to a stop on the grass. Failed attempts to restart meant we were hurriedly towed back to the paddock. As soon as the tow rope was unhitched we quickly tried to diagnose the problem to see if we could save something of the days racing and get back out there. But on further investigation we found the engine had seized due to an internal component failure. GAME OVER!!…………………….for today at least!!

We stayed on at Mallory to watch our fellow competitor’s race and I got a view of the race I don’t normally see from the sidelines! I have to say we were treated to some brilliant race long battle royals, really exciting, well done to the rest of the drivers you put on a great show!!

On our return back to the vehicles contemplating our drive home, we found we had been left a trophy for 3rd place in class from the previous round, which was a nice surprise and cheered us up no end….and got us fired up for our return at Oulton Park in two weeks!…….now where did I put my spanners?!

With the engine stripped we found not quite a spanner in the works...more like a piston in the sump!!
